Benefits of the new aged care regulatory model

The new aged care regulatory model will introduce a single, universal registration for all providers.

This will promote stronger relationships, transparency and engagement between us, the sector and the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (ACQSC).

    The model will deliver:

    • a system that is easier for older people to access

    • a new provider registration and renewal process across 6 registration categories

    • provider obligations that are specific and easy to understand

    • support to providers to build their capability and continuously improve

    • a graded assessment against the strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards

    • a greater focus on restorative outcomes for complaints

    • stronger regulatory powers for ACQSC.

Be aware of scams targeting residents

We are aware of scammers targeting aged care residents, their families and carers. Some scammers have impersonated aged care providers and collected Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD) payments.

Please ask your residents and their families or carers to be cautious of unfamiliar emails, phone calls or texts.

Here's how they can protect themselves:

    • They should always stop and check before clicking suspicious links, sharing personal details and transferring money.

    • If they are unsure, they should call you using contact details from your official website.

    • If something feels wrong, they should act quickly – contact local police and their bank, then report the scam.

Report scams at Scamwatch or ReportCyber.

Aged Care Learning Information Solution upgrade

The Aged Care Learning Information Solution, known as Alis, is the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission’s online learning platform.

A recent upgrade means providers can now upload the platform's content to their own learning management systems.

It provides learning content to help aged care workers and providers understand their obligations and deliver safe, high quality care.

Aged Care Clinical Information System Standards released

The Australian Digital Health Agency has released the Aged Care Clinical Information System (ACCIS) Standards for residential aged care homes.

The ACCIS Standards provide the foundation for sharing health information. It will support interoperability and help enable different systems to work better together and be better connected. This will be done by encouraging common critical elements across software products used in residential aged care.

They guide aged care providers and software developers on the minimum software requirements for clinical information systems. This includes the Electronic Medication Management (EMM) system.

The Australian Digital Health Agency continues its collaboration with the aged care sector to implement these standards.
