Older Person Mental Health First Aid Course – Melbourne

The Older Person Mental Health First Aid course is in-person and held over 2 x 6 hr sessions.

Day 1 – 9 am to 3:30 pm, Thursday 24 October
Day 2 – 9 am to 3:30 pm, Friday 25 October

About the Course

Participants learn how to give initial support to an older person who may be experiencing a mental health issue or crisis. This initial support can be provided until professional help is received or the crisis resolves.

The course covers:

  • Signs and symptoms of common mental health issues in older people

  • How to recognise and respond to an emerging or worsening mental health issue

  • Treatments and supports available.

An Older Person Mental Health First Aid manual is provided to each participant.

Lunch and refreshments included.

Certification

After successfully completing the course, participants will receive accreditation as Mental Health First Aiders. This certification lasts 3 years, is evidence-based and globally recognised.

This course is recognised by Suicide Prevention Australia as a safe, high-quality and effective suicide prevention program.

Vanja Simic, Mental Health First Aid Australia

Vanja is a licensed Mental Health First Aid Trainer. She has over 15 years of experience in clinical, non-clinical and operational roles within healthcare. Vanja has worked as Quality, Risk and Compliance Manager at Alfred Mental Health Services. She has also taught Nursing Students at the Australian Catholic University. Vanja enjoys working collaboratively to understand individual needs and situations to support positive change.
